A break from the norm…

17 November 2009 No Comment

A few days in Blackpool have been just what the doctor ordered. Spending some quality time with the family has been really nice. We took Alfie with the intention that the illuminations would capture his imagination but taking him to the Blackpool tower proved to be the real highlight. The lights didn’t fill him with excitement. In fact he looked around for about 10 minutes and then promptly assumed the sleeping position in his pushchair.

We thought the Tower may be of some interest to him but we were certainly surprised by how much fun he actually had. In the Tower there is a ball pool for the kids to enjoy (and for dads to enjoy – it only took me a second to take my shoes off and dive in). Great fun!! Soon after we proceeded to the top of the tower which didn’t have much interest for Alfie but the best was still to come.

As part of the admission price you are allocated seats to the Circus within the Tower. My thinking was, even if we stay for half hour Alfie has experienced the thrills of the circus but in honesty I didn’t really expect it to hold his attention past 10 minutes. As it turned out it was nothing like I expected. Alfie, at 16 months old, smiled and clapped his hands throughout the whole two hour performance. To see the smile he had on his face and the enthusiasm with which he applauded was fantastic.

Blackpool gets a bad press from many quarters but I stand by the fact that a family can certainly enjoy a few days there at little expense. On the subject of expense, for those of you that collect Tesco clubcard points you should look into using them to gain entry to Blackpool tower (We exchanged £12.50 of Shop vouchers for £50 off entry).
