A Father’s legacy

1 June 2009 No Comment

How do you want to be remembered as a dad?

In years to come you child will inevitably be asked at some point “What was your dad like?” The answer to this question is something that you want to be proud of. You want to be able to stand tall as your son or daughter says, “My dad was the best.”
Put yourself into your childs shoes. What would the answer to that question be today? Now imagine it’s 30 years from now, what do you want the answer to be?

If your thoughts on what the answer would be now differ to what you’d like the answer to be in 30 years it’s not too late. The answer to this question is not yet set in stone and you have the chance to influence what your childs response will be.

Now is the time to develop yourself a set of guidelines and make a pledge of what you will do to achieve “My dad was the best” status or in our eyes what you need to do to become “A Superdad !!”

Get yourself a pen and a small piece of paper and write down a pledge of what you’re going to do to make you a better dad. Now put this piece of paper into your wallet so that you can refer to it on occasion. Holding this pledge with you will help you stick to it and inevitably will help you become the dad that you want to be. If you think it will help you keep to it or would just like to share your pledge, state it on our forum within our pledges thread.
A dads legacy is however more than just the answer one question. It is a lot more. It’s about the reasoning behind the answer to the question. This comes from the values that you instil into your children, the values that they will live their life by. Moreover the same values will then be passed onto the next generation as your children pass on the values they inherited from you along with the ones that they have formed by themselves onto your grandchildren. This process will continue and your values and beliefs will still have some influence on your families future generations way into the next century.
A dads legacy is also one of love, honour and respect. Any man who is deemed honourable and has both the love and respect of his children has been a successful dad. Similarly any man who can honestly say that he became the best dad that he could be deserves the honour of Superdad.

Be the best dad that you can be !!

We’re here to make a difference. Superdads not only offers advice but we are her e to promote the importance of fatherhood. Many people are oblivious to the fact that Dads really do matter and this is something we’d like to put right.
