Brothers and fundraising
Alfie loves his little brother. Everyday Alfie leans over the Cot to see Charlie and he greets him with “Hello Baba”. It’s cute to say the least.
The signs are good. When we found out we were going to have two little boys we hoped that they would grow up together as not only brothers but also best friends. Obviously it’s early days but there is certainly a bond between them.
Charlie is nearly two months old now and has grown considerably in such a short space of time. He is already moving out of his first set of clothes into the next size up.
Charlie has been a little star for his daddy so far. He lies on my chest and falls to sleep whilst I kick back and relax. Hope this is a sign of things to come.
This weekend gone was Alfies second birthday. On his first birthday we took him to Twycross Zoo and had a really good day so this year we thought we’d visit the zoo again, this time Chester Zoo. It was great. Alfie loved seeing all the animals even though he seems to think that they all make the same noises judging by the sounds he was making as he pointed out each different species. In the meantime Charlie just chilled out in his pushchair and had himself a nice relaxing day out in the fresh (well somewhat tainted by animal smell) air.
We followed The Zoo up with a BBQ for our friends and family and I think everyone who attended had a nice time. We certainly got through our fair share of sausages that’s for sure.
If I recall correctly our trip to the zoo was the first time since Alfie was diagnosed with Diabetes that we’ve been out for the whole day and it went swimmingly. A little planning is all it needed for us to ensure we could have a nice family day out.
With Diabetes in mind, I mentioned in my last update that fundraising was going to be on the agenda. Well the ball is well and truly rolling now on that that score. Over the next twelve months my wife and I are determined to make a full on effort to raise money for two causes. Firstly, for the Diabetes team at the Sandwell and Birmingham hospitals who looked after Alfie so well and without there support it wouldn’t have been possible to be where we are today. Secondly, for JDRF – the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund. The JDRF are striving to find ways that youngsters with diabetes can have a better quality of life and are currently researching to develop an “artificial pancreas”. Anything I can do to speed this along is worth while in my opinion.
So, what are we doing? For the Diabetes unit, my wife who is part of an Amateur dramatics group, is going to arrange along with some very enthusiastic fundraisers, a number of events over next twelve months. This is planned to include a concert and a pantomime amongst other things such as a Charity BBQ, a quiz night and a charity Karaoke. If you’d like to contribute to this cause please contact me for details on how you can help at info@superdads.co.uk with DT Fundraising in the subject field.
With regard to fundraising for the JDRF this is a little bit of a different approach. Instead of several events I’m planning one big one. The idea is to host a Charity Auction followed by a night of Live entertainment and a splendid buffet to top it off.
More details on this event will follow in my coming blogs.
Finally, let me take this opportunity to wish Superdads everywhere a happy Fathers day for this coming Sunday.
