I had been considering getting my eyes lasered for a couple of months and recently decided to actually do it. There are many reasons for getting this simple procedure done including some that will benefit me in my life as a dad. Here are just some of the advantages……
Last time we took Alfie swimming I couldn’t see across the pool and I was thinking to myself about when he’s a little older, how I wouldn’t be able to let him go too far from me because I wouldn’t be able …

It was great having a little bit off snow just as the Festive period kicked off. It really gave the whole feeling of Christmas a boost. It’s January now though and snow has been falling all over the UK. I don’t particularly like the snow because of the disruption it causes but I remember how much I enjoyed playing out in the snow when I was a kid so I had to take young Alfie outside to play when we had four-five inches of snow yesterday. He loved it. The …

What a great time of year!!! I love Christmas. Food, food, food and more food, all washed down by buck loads of beer and wine – Fantastic. This year was more than just food and drink though. It was Alfie’s second Christmas and as special as a babies first Christmas is the second one is even better. This year he was of an age where he could respond to what was happening around him.
Let me tell you about Christmas morning. We entered the lounge where the presents from …

The scan was great. We turned up 25 minutes early for our appointment, we were both excited and had been looking forward to the scan for quite some time, and fortunately we were seen straight away. The midwife was really nice, she took plenty time showing us all the important development factors explaining it to us as she progressed. After confirming all was as expected she asked the question we had been waiting for…Do you want to know the sex? Yes, yes please was our response in tandem. Within seconds …

How excited am I? We’ve started to put up the Christmas decorations, we’re taking Alfie to see Father Christmas on Saturday and to top it all off it’s the 20 week scan tomorrow.
Putting the Christmas decorations up seems to come around really quickly. It doesn’t seem like a year since we were getting all the boxes out, re-arranging the furniture and dressing the tree – but it was. Where does the time go? In all honesty this year has been somewhat eventful and I think that always seems to make …

It’s coming up to the 18 week point now and I felt the baby kick – or at least there was some movement that I could feel. I placed my hand on the lower stomach of my wife and my timing was perfect. It was a lovely feeling. I felt like I had connected with my child and that they were wiggling to say hello.
Our little boy, Alfie, is keeping us busy this week. He seems to have masses and masses of energy. In all fairness though I suppose that …

A few days in Blackpool have been just what the doctor ordered. Spending some quality time with the family has been really nice. We took Alfie with the intention that the illuminations would capture his imagination but taking him to the Blackpool tower proved to be the real highlight. The lights didn’t fill him with excitement. In fact he looked around for about 10 minutes and then promptly assumed the sleeping position in his pushchair.
We thought the Tower may be of some interest to him but we were certainly surprised …

This week I have been removed from the “at risk” category at work. It really is a relief to get it over with but my thoughts are with those that have not had such a positive outcome as myself. To those guys I say, good luck and best wishes.
When I found out I was to get a new position at the company I work at, I felt a huge sigh of relief. There wasn’t a feeling of success, neither was there any degree of excitement. In fact my first thoughts …

We arrived at the hospital at 11.25am and, when we eventually found a parking space, made our way into the ante-natal clinic. Our appointment for the scan was at 11.40am but, from past experience, we thought it would be a long afternoon as the hospital usually take there time over everything. So with Ginger biscuits in one pocket and a large bag of fruit pastilles in the other we took a seat in the waiting room with Jade, our trainee midwife. I couldn’t believe my ears when after only 5 …

In my last update I mentioned Rob who was doing the Great North Run and I’d like to begin this update by saying congratulations to him. He completed it in around 1 hour 50 minutes raising over £1000 for charity.
It’s been a bit eventful the last few days – I have been put at risk of redundancy at work. This can be tough to deal with at the best of times but when you have a baby on the way it only adds to the panic – or does it? …
