Days Out
When you’ve got kids you’re always trying to find somewhere different that you can take them for a great day out.
We need to ask ourselves, what constitutes a great day out? The answer to this varies depending on you idea of fun but as dads there should be some things that we are all looking for. I love to have a day out where I can spend time with my family, do things that put smiles on their faces and relax in the knowledge that I’m not going to spend a fortune in the process….I guess this is similar for many of you.
To help you arrange a day out to remember with your kids/family here’s our Superdads guide:
Firstly some pointers,
- Set your budget: Check out the place you want to visit and find out what the admission prices are before you travel.
- Look for special offers: Quite often there are discounts to be had by keeping your eyes open for opportunities to get vouchers/coupons. Look in newspapers, magazines, and on various websites for offers that may be of benefit to you. For example, www.moneysavingexpert.com
- Decide how far you’re going to travel: If you’re going to travel a long way you will want the journey to be part of the day out for the kids so why not invest in a portable DVD player or a portable games machine to entertain them in the car. However we suggest that you don’t waste most of your day travelling by trying to keep the day trip to a suitable journey time, less than two hours is ideal. Travelling too far will mean you may be tired from the journey on arrival, the kids may be restless, you will need to factor in stops for toilet breaks and by the time you arrive you will have wasted a good part of the day.
- Pick a destination that is suitable for all the family: For many reasons not all activities suit all people. When choosing what you and your kids/family are going to do keep this in mind.
- Consider the availability of services: Does the place you are visiting have changing facilities for babies? Are there any food retail outlets? Does the chosen destination cater for families?
- Check the weather forecast: There is no point arranging a day on the beach if it’s going to rain all day. If the weather is uncertain you could try and pick a location that has both indoor and out door activities.
- Finally, enjoy yourself: It’s great to take the family out for a nice day but it’s equally important that you enjoy it too. Obviously, as a superdad, you’re going to put the children first but that doesn’t mean you can’t do a little exploring of your own at some point during the day.
