I decided this morning to submit my request for Paternity leave. The strange thing with paternity leave though is that you’re asking for time off that is as yet to be determined. I’ve submitted the form anyway though so I’m half way to sorting out my leave for when the baby arrives. Next up I need to add in an extra weeks leave but I’ll do this at a later date from my annual leave allowance.

I left early from work today to join up with my wife and son at the Midwife appointment. I had thought of telling everyone in the office that I needed to meet with the building inspector, who has been involved with the extension we are having built, but in the end I decided to tell them that we are expecting our second baby. It was good to finally share the good news and there were smiles all around.

So we’ve told our immediate families, the next decision is when to tell our friends about our impending arrival. It’s usually 12/13 weeks before the first scan and that tends to be the most common time for people to share their good news, I on the other hand am really excited and want the world to know now.

The signs of pregnancy are already showing – morning sickness has kicked in. Morning sickness is a strange turn of phase as sickness related to having a baby can occur at any time of the day.
Remembering back to when we had our son, ginger biscuits were the saviour, as such I dashed to the shops for the all important packet of biscuits. These really do help limit the effects of morning sickness, not sure how but they do.

My sister showed no signs of surprise at all when we told her she was to be an Aunt for the second time. In fact I was a little surprised by the reaction – A simple, “Well I expected it – congratulations” was the response. I know she’s over the moon for us but I suppose with there being two years between me and my sister, and she has a two year gap between her kids, she expected I would have a similar gap in between my kids too.
